Life as a hair stylist can be a difficult job at the best of times. They are responsible for one of the most prominent and easily changeable feature we humans possess. We put our trust in someone, the hair stylist, to give us a look that we like and for some that means perfection in not just the style but also the color. So do hair stylists have it easy? The answer is yes, but only after years of practise and experience in using products essential in the hairdressing world.
One of those products is the hair foil. Used as a technique for coloring or bleaching hair, it is considered the best method to use, but can be expensive and time consuming. The alternative is by using a perforated cap to cover the hair and then pulling strands through using a hook. So why are hair foils so much better than a cap? This is down to quite a few elements that will be discussed here. The cap method can be quite uncomfortable and pulling hair through can be sometimes painful. Only one color can be applied by using the cap method, unlike foils where many colors can be applied at the same time. The cap method is quicker however but quick is not always best but it does mean that the cap method is cheaper due to the lesser amount of work required by the stylist. Partial highlights or tints is only really possible with foils as they accurately apply the color or bleach to the exact spot to be treated. Caps are only suited to shorter hair as longer hair is put under too much stress, foils are ideal for longer hair in this case.
The purpose of the hair foil is to ensure the color or bleach is applied to just the right area and is kept away from the hair not to be colored. Bought in rolls or in packs the hair foil has made the job of applying highlights so much easier for hair stylists. Typically a 5 meter roll can be purchased and width is usually 5 inches. Different colored packs can also be purchased although if the client has a large amount of hair it can be more cost effective to use rolls
